Except Russia has not invaded Ukraine. It is defending its military bases in the same way the US defends its bases in areas it regards of strategic importance, or within its sphere of influence.
Unfortunately, the US seems to regard the whole world to be within its sphere of influence, whereas Russsia sticks to its immediate neighbours, whether rightly or wrongly.
It must not be forgotten Russia has a valid concern for the majority Russian population of the autonomous region of Crimea after threats from bands of fascist thugs to ethnically cleanse Ukraine of all people they decide not to be Ukrainian.
There has never been a large permanent population of American citizens living in any of the long list of countries the US has invaded since WW2.
